In the Spirit of Awareness
After the spiritual awakening experience on the elevator that day (see Featured Blog Post "The Spiritual Archer: My Story"), I eventually came to find that no matter what, I would always be loved . . . I felt loved . . . even during my “angry” spells, the love I felt seemed truly unwavering, kind and patient. That feeling has taught, and still teaching me how to be kind, patient and loving to myself, eventually.
At first, I used to berate myself for just about anything, and especially each time I’d forget to be with a feeling, on purpose. I’d forget the “on purpose” part and find that I had been daydreaming for the last hour, not realizing my attention was to “be aware”, in the “now”. ‘Donna, where are you?’ ‘Earth to Donna . . . Earth to Donna’, a voice would softly whisper in my ears (the voice was myself, reminding myself to be in this moment). I would catch and say to myself ‘omg, not again . . . Donna!’ And other sayings I will not repeat here.
Since that day, I also feel, and as I felt on the elevator that day, loving presences all around me, most times. Sometimes, I think I can hear them speaking, although they sound more like whittles instead of words, or ringing around my ears. These presences may be angels, family members on the other side, or whomever, gives me a good feeling like, I know I’m okay. So, the more I berated myself, the more whittles I’d hear around me, in my energy field area. I listen for a moment, by being aware on purpose; then I’d realize I was also subconsciously berating myself even more (later, in my Blog Series, I will talk about how I use meditation to ease symptoms of the spiritual awakening process).
I said to myself, “no more. No more berating myself!” So, again (see my previous post "How I Quit Smoking Cigarettes, Forever” - In The Spirit of Awareness) there was another opportunity to feel through what and where I was criticizing myself. “Wow! I thought. This spiritual awakening experience is no joke, and not to mention a ton of challenging work! Oh my god, how long will it take for me to get through . . . all this . . .

stuff? Answers would come in many forms, like in the days when I was obsessed with the “positive living”, the “power of positive thinking”, “the law of attraction”, “the biology of belief” and so on, and so on . . . (hence, PositiveVortex.com) Since then, I have slowed down a tad with the “positivity” fixation. However, I still do, truly believe that the planting positive living seeds in the mind helps assist through the spiritual awakening process as well.
Each moment I’d begin to scold myself, before I do, I would choose to instead feel through the feeling, aware of the feeling of the thought, aware of the body feelings, like my neck just tensed up, for example. Feeling through the neck (for example), breathe through the neck, on purpose, slow, deep breaths, slowly breathing in, slowly breathing out, releasing the tension, each time until the feeling and tension subsides.
Berating oneself entails a plethora of feelings behind it, so it is best to be patient, which is not unlike tackling an overstuffed garage you’d been meaning to get to but haven’t. In time, and before I realized it to be, I found I no longer berated myself, at least not as much as I used to. (with each feeling trial: the garage gets cleaner, and before you know it, whaala, room for a new car!)
Okay, what does berating me have to do with “riding high with love and forgiveness of self”?

Each individual feeling I accomplish through the exercise of being aware on purpose, feeling, breathing through would lift me up a little higher, for example I’d feel really good, like I had received a gift perhaps, for the ability to gradually transcend a feeling, hence “riding high”. Not to mention, I found a little bit more love for myself through the process. It took a great deal of work to do, but with every effort, when I forgot the exercises, I learned to forgive myself through it, and the process was well worth it! I feel pretty good, most every day. It is also amazing that once I learned to forgive myself, I inevitably found that I forgave others a little more easily. #LiveBreatheLove
Here’s an interesting article by Kathrine Hurst who says that “we can all find it hard to forgive ourselves sometimes as we tend to always see the bad in what we do, not the positives. We also tend to blame ourselves a lot, which is not a good way to live. How to forgive yourself: The Seven Techniques of Self Forgiveness - http://www.thelawofattraction.com/forgive-techniques-self-forgiveness/
And, another interesting article “Feeling Our Emotions” by Manuela Lenzen https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/feeling-our-emotions/ “joy or sorrow can emerge only after the brain registers physical changes in the body”.
Every practice I choose to do in this spiritual awakening process, not only helps me ride the wave of feelings, but it also helps others in many ways. If you do try this exercise of being aware, breathing and feeling through it all, don’t be surprised if you become a magnet to people who want a more positive life.
The only way to live is to be who I am, where I am. If I want to change things, I can only start here.
